CHARLIE DARWIN LIMITED EDITION 7" TO BE RELEASED ON DARWIN DAY
The kind folks at End of the Road Records in the UK will be releasing a special limited edition 7" single of "Charlie Darwin" on February 12th, 2009 - the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth. 500 copies of the record will be available in the UK and a limited number will be sold state-side at live shows. They will be lovingly hand-painted in Providence.

A FIERCE DESIRE, NADER-OBAMA VOTE SWAP?
Hi folks, this is Ben. With the election tomorrow, I couldn't contain myself. My moments are spent hoping and wishing that tomorrow we will stand up and voice the change we need. A new approach to foreign policy, social justice and a new identity for our beloved country. It's not like me. I have an unmatched disdain for politics. The make-up, the soundbites, the fear-mongering, the duplicitous pandering, the expoitation of religion, patriotism, race, gender, class, and any dangling heartstring. Terribly depressing stuff. But in Barack Obama I see someone who understands the tragedy of the divisive political process; I believe he is as courageous an electable man as we may see. An Abe Lincoln. My fingers are crossed. My coins are in the well (and a few in his campaign's coffers).
On Tuesday I will be voting for Obama in Rhode Island, where he leads polls by double digits. However, if you are a Nader voter in Virginia, Colorado, Florida, Pennsylvania or Ohio and would like to swap votes with me, it would be an honor. Email me at Ben(at)lowanthem(dot)com.

This is a really big week for Low Anthem in NYC. We've got 5 FREE CMJ SHOWS and our first OFFICIAL CMJ SHOWCASE on Tuesday night at Rockwood Music Hall. 9pm.
CMJ is an opportunity for industry people and music fans around the country to descend on NY for a week of shows, panels, parties, and music madness. With the recent success of our release, national tour (thanks to you all) and national media warming, we expect we'll have some of these big-shot, suit types in attendance. It could be a big chance for us. We would love to have your support at the official showcase. It's Tuesday at Rockwood Music Hall. FREE. We go on at 9 sharp, but you'll have to come a bit early to get in.
If you can't make it Tuesday we have four more free shows including a second official showcase on Thursday at the Delancey.

LOW ANTHEM RIPPED A NEW ONE BY LOCAL RAG
Jim Vickers, the wise editor of Motif Magazine (RI arts and culture), has devoted a 16 paragraph, 1,300 word, full-page spread to the slaughter and dissection of "Oh My God, Charlie Darwin." With the reckless abandon of a spurned lover, Vickers pendulates between pedantic hostility and outright veneration. These are some highlights:
"bad" - Jim Vickers
"post-adolescent fits, leaving craftmanship behind in favor of raging hormones" - Jim Vickers
"makes you wonder if Low Anthem have lost the ability to play instruments, sing, or write meaningful lyrics altogether" - Jim Vickers
"songs that give new meaning to the word 'Low'" - Jim Vickers
"dishonors the memory (of) Jack Kerouac" - Jim Vickers
"(This) drunken garage hall song requires earplugs and whiskey to withstand." - Jim Vickers
"I reach for another asprin." - Jim Vickers.
"The worst song ever recorded or concieved by The Low Anthem" - Jim Vickers
Our favorite soundbite: "The effect could be likened to the War in Iraq military campaign known as "Shock and Awe." - Jim Vickers
Jim proceeds to unpack the record further twice referencing train collisions. He compares the way the new songs make him feel to the way he feels when listening to George W. Bush speak. Interesting. But perhaps the most devastating blow is Jim's comparison of "(Don't) Tremble" to Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry, Be Happy." Presumably he has heard both songs, and we suspect that the outrageous comparison is sincere. But read on and you will find that Jim's evil twin snuck to the keyboard and wrote this of Charlie Darwin, the title track:
"the pinnacle of folk music, and the New Folk Movement sweeping the nation, transporting listeners to another time and place, all the while touching the day's heart." - Benevolent Gate-keeper to Beauty and Quality, Jim Vickers
Um...While The Low Anthem is disappointed that Vickers got two of the song titles wrong and used an archaic jpeg that was previously published in a March issue of Motif, they are grateful for their first "big boy" review. They have felt ready to wipe their own asses for a long time now, and Jim, father-figure and guru of the musical arts, has offered his blessing.
